WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Guns are part of American culture, but along with the right to bear arms comes the responsibility to take care of them.
Too often, though, guns are winding up in the hands of criminals. For example, we found two area counties, where gun owners have reported nearly 300 firearms stolen in the last year, and more have been stolen in other parts of the Cape Fear.
Many of those stolen guns are winding up in your community potentially putting you and your family at risk. But experts say the problem can be combated easily.
“We can control the flow of illegal guns onto the street if we make it difficult for bad guys to get their hands on them,” Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said.
