WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of veterans from different wars were honored today on the U.S.S. North Carolina.
More than 80 veterans, along with their friends and family, celebrated aboard the battleship. Veterans from World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War were in attendance. Emerson Foote and Fred Emerson both served in World War II.
“I was an electronics engineer on a submarine in the Pacific Theater,” Foote said. “Very, very necessary at the time.”
“Went through Basic Training and Officer Candidate School and shipped over in December and served in England, France and Germany,” Emerson said.
The event included a color guard ceremony performed by Plantation Village veterans, music and food. Active duty Marines from Camp Lejeune were also there to greet and thank the veterans for their service.
