IOWA CITY, IA (KCRG) — Bridget Hogan welcomed 30 more fingers and 30 more toes to her family on November 3rd. Three boys –Tadhg, Sean, and Cathal — were born completely healthy, weighing between four and five pounds.
The chance of having identical triplets is so rare Hogan’s doctor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics can’t put a number on it, but he said its around a .004 percent chance of every birth.
“The true number is very difficult to find. Its exceedingly rare event I’ve seen numbers from 1 in 70,000 to 1 in a million,” Director of Maternal and Fetal Medicine Dr. Stephen Hunter said.
