WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The lights are lit! The City of Wilmington Friday night flipped the switch at the annual tree lighting ceremony downtown.
The parking lot at the corner of Princess and Water streets was slam packed with families this year under clear skies. The crowd estimate was in the hundreds. WWAY’s Daniel Seamans says it was by far the busiest he’s seen it the in the past few years.
While we were down there for the festivities, we asked a couple kids if they’ve been behaving this year since Santa was showing up at the event.
“Honestly,” Keely Burks said, “this year I’ve been pretty good, so I think I’m going to make it on Santa’s list this year.”
Malachi Thomas said, “I used to be on the naughty list but I’ve been good so far now.”
The crowd also sang carols, sipped on hot chocolate and watched a holiday movie on a big screen.
