WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Coast Guard crews rescued a man from his disabled sailboat near Cape Lookout early Tuesday.

Crews said they got the call from a sailor aboard a 40-foot sailboat Sassafras, saying he lost his anchor and needed help.

They lowered a rescue swimmer into the water near the disabled boat and found out the lone sailor was also having problems with the engines and other technical problems.

The man and rescue swimmer were then hoisted into the helicopter. Coast Guard crews said the sailor was taken to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, where he was reportedly in good condition.

Crews said the man chose to leave his boat behind.
