WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Port City Community Church spends every Saturday preparing and serving a hot lunch meal to those in our community who are hungry and or homeless.
From yams to green beans to turkey, there was plenty of good food followed up by good fellowship.
This Saturday, volunteers were joined by members and the youth group of the Council Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church who passed out gift bags.
“It’s a joy because they want to give back because Christmas is not only just about receiving gifts but also sharing them with others, ” Pastor Darryl Howard, Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church, said.
The gift bags included fruit, toiletries items, socks, and things they can use from day to day.
Howard says giving them stuff like blankets, hats, and gloves is very important this time of the year as we head into winter time.
The group also sang Christmas songs to celebrate the meaning of the day.
Non-profit organization Young Bosses United (YBU) were also there volunteering their time. YBU is a small group of entrepreneurs under the age 30.
