WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The holidays can be stressful, and what better way to let off some post-Christmas steam than having a few laughs and supporting a good cause?
“The show is a group of women that are comedians and performers or poets that are coming together just to do a showcase of our artistry and our comedy,” said poet Khalisa Williams.
The “No Scrubs Benefit Show” features at least 10 female comedians who will be taking the stage at Dead Crow Comedy to help you laugh the post-holiday blues away.
“Holidays can be a really stressful time, so I think comedy is healing and that’s a great time to come relax from the stress of the holidays,” said Williams.
Locals and out-of-towners alike will be at the mic with a ladies take on the world.
“It’s another voice to be heard I suppose,” comedian Beth Corvino said. “It’s another perspective.”
But this show is not just for women.
“You’re going to see people from every different kind of walk of life and their perspectives,” comedian Blaire Postman said. “Some of them are going to talk about things you might expect but in really unexpected ways. And other people are going to talk about stuff that you could never imagine.”
This show is also for a very special cause. “No Scrubs” is a fundraiser for the Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons.
“We respond to the hospitals in New Hanover and Brunswick for victims of sexual trauma,” said Jamie Thompson, the development director for the center. “But we already do advocacy work. We do primary prevention work. We do counseling, individual and family.”
So after chowing down on some leftovers, why not come out, have a good laugh and support a great organization in our community. You can check out the “No Scrubs” comedy show on Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Dead Crow Comedy. There will be prizes raffled during both performances.
