SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A memorial march is scheduled for 3 p.m. to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.
The half-mile march will begin at the ILA Union and is open to the public. Following the march, there will be a special program including local musicians, students, school officials, and even a demonstration from a robotics club.
MLK Celebration Committee Chairperson Rhonda Davis says it’s important to continue these events to remind people in the community of Dr. King’s messages.
“You can conquer injustices better through peace and peaceful marches, peaceful sit-ins, rather than violence,” said Davis.
The guest speaker will be Rev. Quan Stewart, pastor at St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
