WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An iconic piece of the Wilmington Riverfront is leaving the Cape Fear region.
According to a news release from Cape Fear Riverboats, Inc., the Henrietta III was sold to a company based in Fort Myers, Florida today. Captain Carl Marshburn, President and Owner of the company, said he plans to replace the vessel with a smaller riverboat suited for private charters and other sightseeing cruises. The Henrietta III’s last cruise was on New Year’s Eve. The original Henrietta was brought to Wilmington in 1988. The smaller boats that are also part of the company, Captain J.N. Maffitt and John Knox, will remain.
The Henrietta III should be out of the Cape Fear River by March 1, the release said. It was sold to Pleasure Boat Cruises Corporation. Anyone who has purchased gift certificates for the vessel will be reimbursed, Marshburn said.
