WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW hosted Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at Kenan Auditorium Friday night.
King discussed many of her father’s messages, but added a few of her own. Much of her speech centered around educating youth, respecting all people, and economic and racial equality.
She encouraged spectators to continue to study her father’s work and apply it to current times.
Reverend Kojo Nantambu attended the event and said it was important for people of all ages to hear what King had to say.
“So they can hear a different perspective and people’s point of view of what Dr. King was trying to do, what he did, and who he was,” said Nantambu. “You cannot get a better perspective than from his own daughter.”
Bernice King currently serves as the CEO of The King Center and is an author and attorney. The city of Wilmington collaborated with the university for the night’s event.
