Officials say Outer Banks wildfire caused by humans

NAGS HEAD, NC (AP) — An investigator says a fire that burned almost 250 acres on the Outer Banks was caused by humans.

The Nature Conservancy on Tuesday announced it is offering a $1,000 reward for information about who caused the fire.

The Conservancy says an investigator from the North Carolina Forest Service determined that the fire at the Nags Head Woods Preserve was caused by humans.

The fire broke out March 22 and took three days to contain because of low humidity and gusty winds. The flames threatened several structures but no buildings were burned.
