ROCK HILL, SC (AP) — Rock Hill’s Fountain Park remains without water in its signature water feature.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports (http://bit.ly/1W9j6RL) the fountain has been drained and closed for repairs for three to four months since opening at the end of 2014.
Fortunately for taxpayers, the fountain’s elaborate jet system remains under warranty. Deputy City Manager Jimmy Bagley says repairs otherwise would cost several hundred thousand dollars.
Crews will excavate the fountain bowl and make other repairs.
The bowl also was drained last fall to address the same problem. Bagley says a pipe underneath the concrete bowl broke and washed up soil, clogging the pipes that feed the fountain’s alternating jets.
Crews used a temporary fix to get through the holidays.
