NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A new playground at Hugh MacRae park will feature a zip line, splash pad, and it will have wheelchair accessible pieces.
New Hanover County Parks and Gardens Director Tara Duckworth said it is going to be an all inclusive park that has separate areas for toddlers ages 2-5 and children 5-12. The park is being funded by a $750,000 grant from the Trillium Health Resources’ Play Together Grant.
Duckworth said it will have a big swing that someone could roll a wheelchair into and lock in place. She also said it will have other kinds of swings that are accessible to difference ages and capabilities.
Duckworth said the playground will also have a zip line, a 10 foot tower, and a splash pad. She said the ground will be covered in a rubber mat that will be wheelchair accessible.
Construction is expected to last 8 weeks and be complete by late June or early July. Duckworth said that schedule depends on weather delays.
