WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Don’t be surprised if you hear or feel an explosion in the Wilmington area Sunday morning.
Duke Energy says it will implode the second of three boilers at the retired Sutton Plant on Sunday morning. The power company says the boiler is similar in design, but slightly smaller than the boiler imploded April 10. That implosion caught a lot of people off guard.
Duke Energy says people who live within two miles of the plant got notification this week about the planned implosion.
The company said it does not typically provide exact times for implosions for safety and security reasons, and due to the fact that a number of factors, including weather and technical factors, may affect the actual time the implosion occurs.
A third boiler is scheduled for implosion this fall.
