BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 67-year-old woman made a stop in Southport today as she peddles her way across the country.
Lindsay Waite is cycling to raise money for nonprofits dedicated to prison reform. Waite said she has already raised more than $3,000 and hopes that it will make a difference somewhere.
“It’s going toward saving money, helping people, reducing crime and preventing future victims, so it all seems to fit together to me,” Waite said.
Waite said her inspiration for the bike trip came from her time spent working as a public defender in Baltimore. She began the journey in New Mexico and will end it in Maryland.
