WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Summertime means the kids are out of class and ready for family fun. Plus summer is a great time to start an exercise program with your kids.
We met up with some “fit dads” for tips on how to keep the family active.
“It is key to be a good example for your kids,” said “fit dad” Gabe Frank.
“You can talk all you want. They do what they see,” said “fit dad” Michael Lopez. “They’ve got an attention span of about 20 minutes, you know they stay on a subject or stay on an activity and so you want to keep it rolling all the time so they stay in great shape.”
You don’t need to spend a lot of money or travel very far to get a family workout in.
“And doing of course general fit things that kids do, riding bikes, outside playing. A lot of that doesn’t seem to be happening as much today as it was when I was a kid,” said “fit dad” Mike Valentino.
Valentino created a portable obstacle course for his kids and their friends.
“A very popular fitness today amongst adults are these boot camps and this style and activities where you have different stations and that’s kinda what I’ve set up here just as a way to keep the fitness interesting it’s not the same old same old type of activities,” said Valentino.
The key to creating a fitness habit with kids is to keep it fun. Plus when the kids are having fun, chances are you’ll be having fun too.
