LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Wednesday night Wayne Goodwin, commissioner of insurance for the North Carolina Department of Insurance, spoke to homeowners in Leland.
He had some advice for homeowners to save money and at the time get adequate coverage for when disaster strikes.
He said it’s good to change coverage and insurance companies every couple years. He also encourages people to shop around and look into insurance companies before choosing one.
Goodwin he said he has been traveling around the state to make sure people are prepared when severe weather happens.
“To talk about how we save people money, and how can we get the best deals, and have the best choices from insurance and how to protect people from insidious, greedy practices of our insurance companies,” said Goodwin.
Goodwin said the department of insurance is pushing for a state based flood insurance system … Which allows for more options for flood insurance outside the federal system.
He also added they would like to see legislation to regulate insurance companies holding them more accountable for raising rates excessively.
