WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –They pulled off a magical performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ and now the Wilmington Ballet Company is doing it again with ‘Swan Lake’.
Executive Director Elizabeth Hester says this is a first ever for the area. “Never before in all of Wilmington’s history has any company put on a classical 4-act Swan Lake,” Hester said of the June 10th ballet.
“I just hope that everyone who comes to see Swan Lake kind of gets a general idea of what’s here, what we’re trying to do as a company” dance instructor Nicole Dalier said of the performance . “We’re trying to incorporate lots of different organizations.”
The full length classical “Swan Lake” will feature morn than 20 classically trained professional and pre-professional ballerinas will perform the iconic Lake. Professional dancers from the prestigious Washington Ballet are part of Friday’s performance.
Hester says Hawk Manor Falconry will be bringing their incredible predator birds to meet audience members in the lobby and fly in the first act! Cape Fear Fencing will perform swash bucking sword fighting in the first scene. A cabaret (provided by Kathy Snow Productions) and a clogging exposition (by Cripple Creek Cloggers) will be performed pre-show (7:00 only) and during the intermission. Special medieval characters for photo-ops and fun throughout the lobby will be provided by Gore Dolls.
More than 300 performers and over 1000 costumes will been seen on the stage of CFCC’s Humanities and Fine Arts Center.
A special children’s matinee will be held at 4:00 on Friday, June 10th, which is an hour in length, and tickets are only $15.00. The highlights of the ballet are condensed in a specially designed performance for young audiences.
