Four Diamond Hawks among MLB draft picks

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three more UNCW players were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft Saturday. That brought the total number of Diamond Hawks picked to four in this year’s draft.

Lefthanded pitcher Taylor Hyssong was the UNCW player picked first, when the Atlanta Braves made him an 8th-round selection Friday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks picked catcher Gavin Stupienski, as redshirt junior, in the 12th round.

Colorado chose a pair of Seahawks. The Rockies picked OF/IF Steve Linkous, a North Brunswick High School alum, in the 22nd round. A round later, the Rockies chose righthanded pitcher Jared Gesell.
