Kickball league aims to cut back violence, create community

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For three years kickball has been bringing people together. Folks from all age groups and backgrounds come together at the field at the Martin Luther King Center to create a sense of community in the Port City.

The Port City Kickball Association said they are working to create a fun atmosphere for anyone in Wilmington to come out and have fun on Sunday afternoons.

Organizers said, especially in the summer months, it is important to give kids and young adults something productive to do to keep them out of trouble.

“You know just like going to church, basically everyone coming together get their spirit, get a good feeling and have a good time,” said Leon Wilson a volunteer with the league.

Wilson said he grew up in Wilmington and thinks this kickball league is a way to bring back the old days of folks looking out for one another.

The league plays every Sunday throughout the summer and organizers tell me they crowds just keep growing each and every week
