COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Officials with the Columbus County Animal Control said several snakes were removed from a home this morning.
According to shelter manager Joey Prince, seven Ball pythons and one Carpet python were taken from a home in the Mollie Community early this morning. Prince said these types of animals are not allowed to be kept as pets unless the owner has an appropriate license.
Since the shelter doesn’t have the resources to handle this type of situation, Prince said Alligator Adventure of North Myrtle Beach helped with the removal. He said the snakes appeared to be healthy and cared for and the owners were agreeable to their removal.
“This case is part of an ongoing investigation into rumors of exotic animals being released in this area, and further action may be taken as the investigation continues,” Prince said.
Prince also said the investigation is also important because there is a large preschool near this area, the Sweet Home Baptist Church. Mollie is about halfway between Whiteville and Tabor City.
