WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Walking or running might be great for you fitness wise, but it can sometimes get a little boring. That’s where the Wrightsville Beach loop comes into play. It gives you plenty of scenery to enjoy and even offers a sense of community.
“It’s just such an easy, great way to exercise and still see people and still be part of the beach scene without being on the beach,” said loop walker Dabney Aldridge.
The two and a half mile loop attracts both locals and tourists alike and encourages folks of all fitness levels.
“I just kinda do a run/walk interval kinda thing depending on the day and the weather and the time and what time I got in bed last night, depends really on what I do,” said Aldridge.
Walking can be a great and free way to boost your workout routine. At a regular pace, which is about four miles per hour, you can burn up to 415 calories in just one hour of walking or jogging.
“For a little bit more added resistance, you can hit down by Tower 7 walk the beach up to Johnnie Mercer’s Pier and hit the sidewalk back there to add the sand resistance. Just walking on the sand you’re going to burn twice the amount of calories for the loop,” said Evonne Varady.
Remember beach rules apply even if you never decide to hit the sand. Drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen.
If you decide to workout with your pet, keep in mind that most veterinarians suggest avoiding exercising dogs when the temperature goes above 85 degrees.
As with any workout, try to have fun!
