CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach town planners hope to set new regulations for beach-front properties.
They passed efforts to create a development line along the beach. Right now, homeowners who lose their houses to natural disasters have to rebuild behind a certain line, but there’s not enough land to do so.
Senior planner Jeremy Hardison said the town is working to grandfather-in existing properties so homeowners don’t have to do that.
“Existing structures could be rebuilt,” Hardison said. “It wasn’t that you pushed the development line so far that you plotted off new lots or that a new building could be constructed.”
Carolina Beach is the first beach community in our area to create a development line under new regulations. The state has to approve the proposal.
