SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The mayor of Sunset Beach will be resigning next month.
According to a Facbeook post by Mayor Ron Watts last Friday, he and his wife are closing on the sale of their home at the end of August. After sharing the news with the town council, he said he would resign as mayor. Watts said he would resign after the next council meeting on August 16. The town council will select a new mayor to finish out the term, Watts said.
“We’ve loved the past 20 years here at the coast. We raised our three kids here,” the post read. “But we sold our business several years ago, and we’re ready to start retirement and a new adventure in our lives.”
Watts has served in the Sunset Beach community for more than six years, starting as a member of council, he said.
