Police said around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Kerr Ave., an officer got out of her patrol vehicle to approach a gold Lexus. They said the officer witnessed erratic driving and was going to question the driver when he stopped. Police then say that driver, Qua’jon Canty, 19, put the car in reverse and hit the patrol car. He then drove off.

The Lexus was spotted at the Oleander Plaza in the Food Lion parking lot, but an unidentified female driver was in the car. Police questioned and released her. They said they received information that Canty was in a home in the 3400-block of Metting Road. The suspect was arrested without incident. Police believe Canty switched cars after the hit-and-run.

Police said Canty is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, careless and reckless driving and hit-and-run. They also said he’s a validated gang member.
