WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As troubles continue nationwide between law enforcement and citizens, Wilmington Police want you to know your rights.

They hosted a public forum at Union Missionary Baptist Church Wednesday night to talk about how you should act around law enforcement officers, and how you can file a complaint.

Some attendees said what they learned, they and everyone else, should already know.

“We should have been told in school or done our own research. That’s what Google is for. You can do your own research. Knowledge is the best key to power,” said Malquan Dixon, someone who attended the event.

Wilmington Police want to help educate even more people in the community. They said you can host a session at your next community meeting. To set that up, you can call (910) 341-4608, according to the Wilmington Police Department’s Facebook page.
