WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The Internal Affairs investigation into Cpl. James Coley Johnson is over.
Wilmington police say Johnson will return to full duty at the Wilmington Police Department with a demotion from Corporal to the rank of Police Officer.
The investigation concluded almost two months after a Superior Court Judge found Johnson not guilty of misdemeanor simple assault and failure to discharge duties during a 2014 drug arrest involving a 16 year old Wilmington teen.
Johnson was placed on Administrative Leave without pay on June 23, 2014. He will return to the agency and perform administrative duties until his certifications have been brought up to date.
Johnson has been employed with the Wilmington Police Department for more than 26 years.
