Marshall Doran pleads guilty in Carolina Beach fires


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The man accused of starting several fires in Carolina Beach that killed two women pleaded guilty in court this morning.

Marshall Doran faced two counts of first degree murder, among others, stemming for the arsons in December 2014. Those fires killed Darlene Maslar and Mary Cochran.

Doran pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of arson.

He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms.

District Attorney Ben David said the victim’s families finally got closure today.
