Sprinkler causes water damage at Wilmington hotel

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) –  Fire crews evacuated the Holiday Inn Express on VanCampen Boulevard this morning.

Battalion Chief David Hines says crews responded to a sprinkler system that was activated.  When they arrived, they found out someone in a room had damaged a sprinkler head, which caused the sprinkler to go off.

Firefighters turned off the water supply valve and shut off power from the building.  The fire alarm system is currently off and the sprinkler has been shut down.

The fire department says there is water damage on all four floors.  Hines does not know when the hotel will return to normal operations.
