NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Residents on Long Pointe Drive in Myrtle Grove joined forces Saturday morning to cleanup their yards after Hurricane Hermine’s heavy winds.
Many picked up tree branches and shingles that had blown off their homes. One family had their entire backyard fence leveled by Friday evening’s storm. Gene Connors said it seemed like the storm had calmed down when out of nowhere the winds picked up.
“It was like an explosion in my backyard,” he said. “Everything went up in the air and around, no direction, it just kept going around.”
Connors said those heavy winds came and went and were over in what seemed like seconds.
