WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While the storm did not bring major damages to our area, some people in New Hanover county experienced heavier winds than others.
The National Weather Service visited the Myrtle grove area of New Hanover County Saturday to address Hermine’s damages. Residents in that area reported fallen trees and limbs, and said furniture was blown across their yards. Reid Hawkins with the National Weather Service said the area experienced at least 60 mile per hour winds.
“It’s very difficult to tell if a tornado touched down,” Hawkins said. “The damage is very sporadic. The trees that were damaged were Bradford Pears which are fairly weak.”
Hawkins says the heavy winds were most likely just tropical storm winds.
