WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Following Saturday’s shooting, dozens of people attended a rally in the Creekwood community Sunday.
Organizer Kevin Spears put on the event in effort to stop gun violence in the neighborhood. Community members kicked off the event with an emotional speech followed by prayer. Dozens of residents and strangers participated in the event.
“We’re not shining light on the negativity, we’re trying to counteract the negativity and trying to remind everyone that that is not normal,” said organizer Tim Joyner.
Organizers provided food and drinks for those who attended. They also took the time to showcase local talent throughout the community with poets and singers.
