WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington and New Hanover County fire stations have new 9/11 memorial flags thanks to an anonymous donor.

The Rolling Thunder and the Red Knights motorcycle clubs delivered the flags.

There are enough flags for all the Wilmington Fire and New Hanover County Fire and Rescue stations.

The flags will be flown on September 11th, which was important to many at the ceremony.

“We can’t forget,” Wilmington Chapter President of Rolling Thunder North Carolina Matt Wall said. “We have to support the firefighters. We support all first responders and a day like that is a day that needs to be honored and remembered.”

This weekend the public is invited to a September 11th memorial service honoring those who gave their lives to help others and for the first responders who work hard to keep us safe.

The service will be held Sunday, September 11th at 9:30 a.m. at the Wilmington Firefighters’ Memorial at the Empie Park Fire Station.

The Wilmington Fire Department said a light breakfast will be served before the service begins. Immediately following the service, there will be an opportunity to pray for and personally write notes of encouragement to local firemen, police, and paramedics in our area.

Parking for the event will be available across Park Avenue beside the State Farm building.
