Police identify victims in Saturday Creekwood shooting, witnesses not cooperating


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say witnesses are not cooperating with the investigation into a Saturday afternoon shooting in Creekwood that still has one of the victims in critical condition.

Police say someone shot four men around 2:30 p.m. in the 600 and 700 block of N. 30th Street.

This afternoon WPD identified the victims as Wakeel Stewart, 21 of Wilmington, Maurice Bellamy, 25 of Wilmington, Tyree Johnson, 20 of Wilmington, and Darryl Freeman, 28 of Wilmington. Police says Freeman is in the hospital in critical condition. The other three victims were treated and released.

Stewart has a history of legal issues and has several pending cases, according to court records.

Johnson was a standout baseball player at New Hanover High School, who was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 38th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, but never signed to play professionally.
