WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Rep. Susi Hamilton (D-New Hanover County) is calling for a bipartisan effort to repeal House Bill 2.
This comes after the NCAA and ACC’s decision to pull their championship tournaments from North Carolina.
She calls on other lawmakers to join the fight against HB2. Read her full statement below:
“I am asking my fellow legislators to work with me and to follow the lead of Senator Tamara Barringer of Wake County in calling for a full repeal of HB2” said Hamilton. “A unified, bipartisan effort is the only thing that can save our great state from the downward spiral inflicted by this discriminatory law. For decades, North Carolinians have worked hard to establish ourselves as a business-friendly, progressive state, a beacon of light in the South. Unfortunately, this unnecessary and unethical legislation has undone years of progress built on the backs of the generations before us and threatens to destroy years of progress. Corporations and organizations across the country are refusing to do business with us, and the damage HB2 is causing to our economy is nearing the point of no return. Senators Bill Rabon and Michael Lee, Representatives Ted Davis, Holly Grange and Frank Iler, I’m asking you to join me in the fight for a full repeal of HB2. Together, I know we can make a difference, and preserve our state’s once enviable reputation.”
Hamilton represents District 18, which includes New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
