PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –600 residents in the Hampstead area were without water last night and into this morning after the road on Country Club Drive was flooded out due to heavy rains.
Pender County Utilities officials say the water breeched the spillway and washed the shoulders out causing the water main lines to wash out as well.
The work on the road began Friday morning.
“To start with we had to get the water lines repaired with two different water companies involved. Once they got their repairs done we had to excavate the hole to get it in a sound condition of a bed” transportation director Sam Morgan said.
Once the shoulders were complete, the road reopened around 4 this afternoon.
All residents affected have had water returned to them.
