Coast Guard, others search for man in Currituck Sound

KNOTTS ISLAND, NC (AP) — The Coast Guard and others are searching for a man who was last seen aboard a skiff in Currituck Sound, west of Knotts Island.

Coast Guard officials said in a news release Sunday that they were notified Saturday evening that an unmanned 19-foot skiff was circling south of the entrance to Tull Bay.

Those who searched through the night Saturday and into Sunday include crews from the Coast Guard, N.C. Fish and Wildlife Services, the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, along with private citizens.

Officials say the missing 45-year-old man was last seen by his sister from a different boat at about 6:20 p.m. Saturday. He was reported to not be wearing a life jacket.
