Names of 2 men killed in Bladen County flooding released

CLARKTON, NC (WWAY) — Two men in Bladen County died Saturday as a result of the flooding from Hurricane Matthew. ¬†According to 1st Sergeant Matt Hardee with the State Highway Patrol, 44 year-old Shawn Kemp and 22 year-old Juwan Rolando McCoy-Carter died when their vehicle was overtaken by flooding waters on the¬†1000 block of Rosindale Road in Clarkton.

Both men were from the Clarkton area, and family members of McCoy-Carter told WWAY-TV that he was a football player and 2013 graduate of East Bladen High School.

Flooding continues to be a significant problem in Bladen County.

Elizabethtown City Manager Eddie Madden says several families have had to be relocated. Madden says he’s heard reports that between 9 p.m. Friday and noon today Elizabethtown received about 10 inches of rain.
