LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The League of Women Voters of the Lower Cape Fear held a candidates forum Wednesday night at Leland Town Hall.

Candidates running for North Carolina House District 17, Brunswick County Commission, and Brunswick County School Board spoke at the forum.

Before things kicked off, WWAY spoke to voters about what issues they were most concerned about in the upcoming local election.

“Local issues, I guess some of the issues would be like roads and traffic and the development,” Gary Gupton said. “There’s a lot of apartments going up around here and they call them mixed use developments, but I question the mixed use part of that.”

Other voters were concerned about issues of education and the recent water main break in Brunswick County.

The candidates forum was originally scheduled to happen two weeks ago, but was rescheduled because of Hurricane Matthew.
