SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — West Brunswick High School defeated New Hanover 26-14 last Friday. Some people call it an historic win. Some are calling it a landmark win. Either way you say it West Brunswick is this week’s team of the week after earning loads of respect on the field against the Wildcats.
In Shallotte, they are not called the Mean Machine. Instead, it’s the Green Machine and the Green Machine beat New Hanover 26-14 last Friday with 3 touchdowns from Bubba McCray. West Brunswick clearly deserved to win, and they did. In fact it’s their first victory over the Wildcats in 16 years. “I think our offensive line played well,” West Brunswick head coach Kelly Williamson told WWAY. “Our defensive backs played well too. That was a big win for our program. Big win for our community and our kids. I am proud of our kids. Support from all of our fans. Big time for us.”
Their ain’t no pity in Trojan City as they like to say, but these guys are not done. The 8-1 overall record is nice, but there is more work to be done. “It felt great with me being a senior I hadn’t beaten them,” Tariq Thomas said. “The key was probably our defense and being prepared all throughout the week, kinda a short week because of the storm, but we fought through that.” West Brunswick clearly came to play holding New Hanover to a mere 63 yards rushing. “Celebrating at the end of the game was the best,’ West Brunswick junior Toney Williams told WWAY. “Just knowing we hadn’t beaten them since 2000 felt great.”
Let’s give it up for this week’s WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance Team of the Week, theWest Brunswick Trojans!
