New Hanover holds off Hoggard to move into Mideastern driver’s seat

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hoggard and New Hanover both had a chance to help their league title chances on Tuesday night. Hoggard no longer is in that position after New Hanover edged Hoggard 2-1 on Tuesday when Tenneysan Wnek scored in the final minute of the second half to secure the win for the Wildcats.

If New Hanover beats Topsail on Thursday the Wildcats will clinch at least a share of the Mideastern Conference title. If Hoggard beats Ashley on Thursday and New Hanover wins on Thursday the Wildcats will win the league crown outright. If Ashley beats Hoggard on Thursday and New Hanover wins on Thursday the Wildcats and Screaming Eagles will share the conference crown, but New Hanover would be awarded the #1 seed for the conference in the state playoffs.
