NC teacher transferred after using racial slur

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) – A Cumberland County high school teacher has been reassigned to the district office after officials investigated a report that she used a racial slur about a student.

Superintendent Frank Till Jr. would not provide details to The Fayetteville Observer about the teacher’s new duties.

The English teacher at Pine Forest High School was originally suspended for five days earlier this month.

School officials say the white teacher used a racial slur while referring to a black student.

A substitute will instruct her classes until a permanent replacement is found.

Till has described the incident as a personnel matter and would not say what the teacher said.

School officials said the teacher had no previous suspensions, demotions or other actions against her. She has been at the school since 2006.
