Pat McCrory concedes North Carolina governor’s race

Gov. Pat McCrory

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY)  – Just moments ago, Governor Pat McCrory released a video message conceding to Roy Cooper.

In a YouTube message released this afternoon, he says he believes the majority of NC citizens have spoken. He calls being the 74th governor of North Carolina a privilege.  He says we should all now support the 75th governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper.

The concession nearly four weeks after Election Day comes after appeals dried up and postelection counts saw Cooper’s narrow lead increasing.

Cooper’s win marks an important consolation prize for national Democrats after a disappointing election. Cooper is the outgoing attorney general.

McCrory’s defeat marks the first time a sitting North Carolina governor has lost a re-election bid.
