NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The new splash pad at Hugh MacRae Park is officially complete to go along with the all-inclusive playground.
As WWAY weekend anchor Hannah Patrick was checking it out today with her camera, she got a surprise visit from Santa!
For Santa Claus, December is a very busy month with lots of list checking and checking it twice.
“It’s the busiest time of the year, but it’s the best time of the year,” Santa said.
That is why Santa said he made time in his schedule to help New Hanover County and Trillium Health Resources present a very nice gift to the community as a part of the ‘Play Together Grant.’
“We are going to go live on Facebook, because when you go live you hit really good people and you get to tell the message and share it,” Santa said.
Santa said it is all about the new features.
“Not only did we open up the most amazing inclusive playground right here in Hugh MacRae Park, but we also have this incredible splash pad that everybody gets to be a part of,” Santa said.
It is entirely wheel chair accessible.
“It’s for everybody and that’s what Santa wants to bring,” Santa said. “It’s love and joy for every person in this region, because that’s what it’s all about.”
Santa said every boy and girl deserves to experience this, just maybe not in December.
“I may not get wet today,” Santa said. “I brought some reindeer. They may get out there, but we are at least going to show you what you can do when you come out here.”
Hold your horses or reindeer. The splash pad does not officially open until April.
The county also just finished new trails in the Hugh McRae Park, Ogden and several parks around the county that are completely wheel chair accessible.
