First Robotics holds RoboCon

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — First Robotics held their annual RoboCon as a show case of all the hard work that kids from elementary school all the way to high school have been working on.
“We’re preparing for another season of first robotics competition coming up in January, so we’re just showing off and doing some community outreach.” Sam Weaver said.
Weaver is the team captain of the Wired Wizards group in Wilmington.
They are one of many groups at the RoboCon showing off their robots to the community.
For kids like Weaver, being part of robotics is a great way to be involved with something while setting up their lives for the future.
“It’s the hardest fun you’ll ever have is what they say and it really is true,” Weaver said. “I love First Robotics and can’t wait to go into this season.”
First Robotics, along with the Brunswick County STEM council work to get these kids into technology early so they have the skills for later in life.
“We really want to prepare our children for 21st century jobs,” Bolivia Elementary School teacher Noah Klein said. “We’re very excited to prepare families for the type of job skills and the type of life skills that kids need as they become adults.”
For these students, it’s about more than just robots.
