LELAND, NC (WWAY) — ‘Tis the season for elaborate holiday decorations and over in Leland one Christmas tree display is turning the whole decorating game upside down!
You can’t miss it when you’re driving down the block.
“Many years ago, back in 1986, my late wife and I , her father came over one time and said ‘You guys are nutty enough to do this, what I saw this afternoon,'” said John Rocheleau about his outdoor, upside down Christmas tree. “We do it because people look at it and they laugh and giggle and it just brings a lot of fun to a lot of people.”
Not only is the tree upside down, it rotates and is covered in ornaments as well. Many of those ornaments were hand made by Rocheleau’s mother.
“We made the Christmas tour in Detroit in the suburb we were in and the snow would all be trampled down. We had a big picture window at the house,” said Rocheleau.
Now the tree has moved to Leland and Rocheleau said it is still about spreading Christmas spirit.
“It does exactly what I want it to do. It brings smiles and happiness to people that come by so it’s fun. And it’s fun for us.”
