LELAND, NC (WWAY) — If you and your family are looking for a safe place to live, you do not have to look far.
According to Playmember, the town of Leland is ranked among the safest places to live in North Carolina.
“We’re thankful to be ranked the 11th safest city. We feel like a huge contributor to that is our citizens, as well as our officers. Our officers, they work tirelessly and do an outstanding job, and we’re proud of all of them. And our citizens,” Leland Police Department Spokesman, Lt. Jeremy Humphries said.
Residents say it is comforting to know Leland is on the list.
“I do like it. It’s quite a contrast from New Jersey,” resident William Muro said.
The reason is contributed to low violent and property crime rates in the area.
“It’s a nice town. It’s being developed, and it’s not much in the way of crime. And it’s easy to get around. And it’s not crowded like it is over in the city,” Muro said.
It is an accomplishment Leland Police Chief Mike James is very proud of.
Chief James released the following statement:
“We are happy and excited about making the list of the safest cities in North Carolina. This is a testament to the men and women that work for the Leland Police Department. It is also a testament to our wonderful citizens. I am so blessed to work and live in Leland. Being one of the safest cities in our great state, this is another reason why Leland is a great place to live, work and play.”
“Heaven forbid you should need them. But if you do, they’re always there. It’s a good feeling,” resident Al Needleman said.
It is a feeling Leland Police describe as joy and honor, marking the third year in a row the town has been named one of the safest cities.
“I hope that we end up four years running,” Lt. Jeremy Humphries said.
