WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Last Thursday after UNCW’s win over William & Mary ESPN’s Kevin Connors gave cudos to Seahawk Devontae Cacok for leading the nation in field goal percentage. We caught up with Cacok on Saturday to get his reaction to his national television exposure on ESPN. “It was a great experience to go through,” Cacok told WWAY’s John Rendleman. “Not a lot of people get to experience that, but it’s also good for UNCW to be recognized and it’s just a good team thing for me.”
On Thursday ESPN’s Kevin Connors exclaimed “If the name of the game is to throw the orange ball through the circular iron hoop, then there’s not a player in college basketball doing it better than UNC Wilmington’s Devontae Cacok. He’s the only dude in D-1 connecting on more than 80 percent of his shots. He ain’t perfect, but he’s close. UNC Wilmington’s Devontae Cacok, my star of the night.”
Did Devontae Cacok know it was coming? “Actually, Kevin the guy on SportsCenter tweeted me right before 11 to let me know to watch the SportsCenter at 11,” Cacok said. So what’s is Cacok’s secret to success? “Just go out there and play hard for the team.” Cacok has attempted 135 shots this season. He’s made 110 of the shots for a 81% from the floor.
UNCW, 6-0 in the CAA, will face Charleston, 6-0 in the CAA, on Thursday in Charleston, SC.
