WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A nonprofit organization is working to “grow our local food system” right here in Southeastern North Carolina and hundreds showed up to their conference on Friday.
The 7th annual Local Food Conference, presented by Feast Down East, took place on Friday at UNCW.
The event brings together all those who are involved in supporting and growing the local food system in Southeastern North Carolina.
That includes farmers and fisherman, food retailers and establishments, foodies, local food advocates, and community leaders.
The purpose of the conference is to strengthen the activities of these groups and the networks between them.
“We’re trying to educate the public on the importance of getting behind our local agriculture and buying local food and supporting our communities,” Feast Down East Executive Director Jane Steigerwald said.
Approximately 350 people participated in the conference.
The mission of Feast Down East is to create a healthy, accessible local food system, which supports economic growth in Southeastern North Carolina.
