LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Keeping the beat and getting kids ready for the future is what happens in Chris Cook’s band classes at North Brunswick High School.
He says ‘band teaches you all these life skills.” His philosophy is that his students are going to use the skills he’s teaching them long after they leave NBHS. “They’re going to take these skills,” he says “even they don’t become music majors or go to school for music.”
Cook says teaching music is active learning. His students are learning lessons while they are rehearsing and preparing for concerts and performances. “They know how to get stuff done. They know how to work hard and they know how to organize themselves. They know how to work as a team.”
As for their future he says he is glad he is “putting an impact on students and sending them somewhere to be successful.”
